Bajaj Lab

 ABOUT US

Bajaj Lab is at the forefront of neurodegenerative disease research, with a specialized focus on unraveling the intricate molecular mechanisms underlying conditions such as Alzheimer's and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Employing a synergistic blend of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Functional Genomic approaches our lab delves into the complexities of these diseases. Using cutting-edge tools like induced pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC)-derived 3D-brain organoid models, gene-editing, and single-cell spatial transcriptomics Bajaj Lab investigates converging pathways associated with neurodegenerative diseases. This includes a keen exploration of the defects in healthy proteostasis and ribostasis that can result in the accumulation, trafficking, and recycling of toxic aggregate proteins, as well as the aberrant activation of innate immune responses leading to neuroinflammation. Looking ahead, the lab aims to unearth novel therapeutic strategies, aiming to combat Alzheimer's and ALS and also illuminate the fascinating interplay between neuronal mosaicism, neurogenesis, and our unique evolutionary journey as humans.
